Coherent destruction of tunneling and synthetic gauge fields in trapped ions

Diego Porras
Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain

In this talk, we will review a few ideas on how to use the vibrational modes of trapped ions to simulate the physics of interacting bosons. In particular, we can show that by using periodic drivings of the trapping frequencies, a variety of interesting phenomena from Condensed Matter physics may be observed, such as analogs of the Quantum Hall effect, and analogs of electron tunneling under periodic drivings.
