Engineering defects in crystals for quantum network applications
Kai-Mei Fu
University of Washington, USA
After a brief overview of how one can utilize defects in crystals to realize quantum networks, I will present work from my group toward engineering nitrogen-vacancy centers for integration into quantum photonic circuits. This will include recent results utilizing inverse-designed devices to efficiently extract photons from NV centers, formed by implantation, which exhibit good spectral properties. I will also discuss our progress toward stabilizing centers even closer to the surface. If time permits, I will motivate the need for more fundamental research toward the discovery of new quantum defects and introduce the donor qubit system in ZnO.
