Shortcuts to adiabaticity

Gonzalo Muga
EHU in Bilbao, Spain

Shortcuts to adiabaticity are the techniques and protocols to speed up slow adiabatic processes. They avoid decoherence effects associated with the long times required by adiabatic methods. They also imply  fundamental questions, such as a quantitative formulation of the third principle. I will review the main concepts involved, the different approaches and applications, such as fast cold-atom-cloud expansions, fast atom or ion transport, new cooling methods, or fast internal-state control operations.
