Optomechanical crystals: progress towards quantum optomechanical circuits

California Institute of Technology

Optomechanical crystals are engineered materials with simultaneous energy bandgaps for optical and acoustic waves.  I will describe recent work at Caltech and the University of Vienna to realize quantum devices of interacting photons and phonons formed from thin-film optomechanical crystals etched into the surface of a silicon microchip.  Challenges and opportunities for integrating such devices into quantum optomechanical circuits will also be discussed.
